Innocent Bliss

I see it in their eyes
Just one glimpse is all I need
To see that they are young
Young and innocent in the eyes of the world

Innocent in my eyes
For they see no danger, no peril
Their gaze does not pierce the fog
They live blissfully

Her energetic smile and bright eyes
Portrays the youthful playfulness
All too prevalent in my peers
For they don’t know what they have to lose

They take so much for granted
They don't think twice about what they have
Or what we fight for, that they won't have to
Or what we work so hard to make possible

That they might have to themselves
To enjoy and to love
For their whole lives
Lives that will be long and fulfilling

While I watch from the battlefield
Never knowing when my name will be called
When Taps will be played for me
Or when I see my brothers laid to rest

We give everything we have, and then some
Our energy and liveliness becomes theirs
Because we know what will come otherwise
Life is a dangerous beast, the future is perilous.

I wrote this one during a time when I was thinking through a lot of stuff. It's pretty evident that this has a lot to do with where I stand in relation to everyone else, where my point of view is in relation to all the others, and how I view the world so differently. I'm not saying I'm better than anyone because that is most definitely not the case. I'm simply trying to show what is different for me, or rather how things are different for me. Also, there are a few lines in there that indicate how far I'm willing to go to ensure chaos does not come around and especially not to the people I care about the most.
