I don’t understand the question. Do I add money to my airline ticket to reduce my carbon footprint? That is neither offered where I am nor would I think that adding a surcharge would miraculously change the specs of the aircraft.

Such surcharges are optional, many airlines are having such option at the moment, but most of them offer to plant many trees corresponding to the amount that you pay. Thus globally its effect is negligible, but can raise awareness to the common people.
