I did TRY to stack the deck in my favour during the summer last year. I started to learn how to do something properly that I had struggled with previously.

I spoke to my brother-in-law who is an HR consultant and asked him about some online supervisory courses that I could take. He was also able to update and polish my CV and put my through mock interviews with people in his HR team.

I also asked our own HR person if I could take some online supervisory courses should I ever want to be in a position of authority.

All of which I had hoped would make a difference. During my interview I was told that it was a good idea to have taken those courses. But they had also noticed that I had become a little more professional and attentive what ever that meant. So overall they had seen changes in me over the previous 8 months or so that suggested to them that I preparing myself for a more senior role.
