To my shame and disgust Scotland traded and made money on the backs of Slaves. Ignorance and the Greed of Wealthy Banks and Land owners destroyed the lives of Men, Women and Families from half way around the world to make more money than any of them could spend or need. The beautiful Architecture of Glasgow stands testament to it.
But we as a people have a say and a choice, in these more enlightened times the city of Glasgow thrives with multi-cultural people and it embraces them all.
In 1986 St George’s place was renamed Nelson Mandela place to show solidarity with the abolition of apartheid. All the more poignant because this was to become the address of the South African consulate. I like to imagine letters and correspondence being sent there from South Africa and that they had to put Mandela’s name to them all.
Thank you for sharing Fireball. I agree, powerful.
