Snakes can retain sperm and use it when they feel conditions are right to reproduce.

I think the longest known record is still the rattlesnake who was caught in Florida. She was never bred or even placed with other snakes, yet popped out eggs 5 years after being caught and kept in captivity.
Imagine having sex an unexpectedly poppin out babies 2 years later, or maybe you want to finish college first...just store it away until after you graduate XD
