Webcam not working

When I try to "publish" my webcam and mic in the chatrooms, I get the following messages:

• Media
  Failed to receive media stream. Your system may not fully support this feature, or your browser may just need updating.
• Media
  Failed to publish your stream. Your system may not fully support this feature, or your browser may just need updating.

However, my browser is up-to-date, my drivers are up-to-date and my devices are working at another site (which I won't mention) that uses exactly the same (stelivo) chat client. I have no clue why it won't work here, in my favourite room! On my phone, there is no problem, but on my laptop, there is.

If there is anyone with experience who might know where to start looking (barring the obvious things mentioned above), I'd be grateful.
