Nostalgia

Reminded by the birthday today of a dear friend (everyone send @KayKay25 their good wishes!) of a birthday party i had as a child. It was an outdoor picnic type thing. Everything going lovely until the family dog first walked across the cake, and then took a large chunk out of it and absconded lol

Hope any festivities today go a little smoother!

Happy birthday @KayKay25

Remembering the dolls me and my sis had as kids. Mine was one of those babies thay you could pour water into and it would wee in its nappy! Also for a baby she inexplicably had the blonde perm of Rose from.the Golden Girls.
My sister's doll was a more elegant grown up brunette. Her limbs kept falling off though and eventually got lost, and then the torso started to decay. So my sister got rid of that and kept the head like some serial killer souvenir.

The 80s were happy times x

When I was maybe 12 we were taken ro the each, and met up with our cousins. This family lived inland and clearly hadn't experienced either the beach much before. Because after a swim they emerged from the public restrooms declaring how great it was that there was a "special bath for cleaning the sand off your feet". When in fact they'd gone into the men's side and that was a urinal

Omg!!! That’s hilarious!!

So I was brought up on welfare with mentally very sick parents and I did not have toys. I sold my parents' egg cups to girls in the neighborhood telling them they needed toilets for their barbies. If I looked at them playing with their barbies, I always wondered how they could be so stupid to like pretending it to be real. I bought a book from the first money I earned in my life.

So early on, whether you realized it or not, books were a way to escape, a gateway to greater knowledge or wisdom? I’m not sure but I think the fact that with the money you made the first purchase you made was a book. That says something about who you are I think. Thanks for sharing that. ❤️

Books were my EVERYTHING. I tried to be at the library as much as possible and devoured anything that seemed interesting to me, especially if it had difficult titles that I had to look up first. At this moment in life, I have a large book collection - about 900. I can throw half of it out though, because I realized most of the books contain lies. :) As a child I dreamed of writing a book that would be available to everyone in the world for free, so everyone could learn from me and never have to be sad again (my solution was to just deny it). :D:D:D
