Photos of the Natural World

Well, the trees here aren’t the largest maybe 250-275 feet. So assuming a person is 5 and a half feet tall…45 people standing on each others shoulders. :p

Then the camera person took it in a such a way to make you to see as a tiny dot along with the giant tree :P

Yes he did. A work colleague of mine. We were here conducting a study to tree mortality for the US Forest Service and the State of California following the 2022 wildfires in this area. We will be returning next year to follow up with additional assessments. IMG_2404.jpegIMG_2401.jpegIMG_2399.jpeg

But if the fire is done by the nature, then that makes sense.
Yes. We have a similar study going on in Los Angeles at the site of the Palisades fire last December, an urban area. The goal is an attempt to determine tree mortality based on stem “charring” from fire in the hopes of reducing the number of fire damaged trees which would need to be removed unnecessarily.

My husband and I went to monkey world in Dorset during the summer 2023. This deer came as close as 6" to us we were really surprised by how close it came to us.
It’s so cool when we get visits from our animal friends. One of my first posts on this thread was of a moose encounter I had while backpacking. A cow and her two calves. It’s really a magical experience being able to be in such close proximity to animals in the wild.

IMG_2300.jpegIMG_4083.jpegIMG_0076.jpegAllow me to introduce you to my girl…a 54-inch white oak (Quercus alba). I found her in a nature preserve only a mile from my home. Hiking there one day I spied her through the forest, standing broad and strong amongst a young mixed stand of beech, cherry and maples. She’s unique in that those that came perhaps 150 years before me preserved her while clearing the surrounding land. She’s a survivor, much like a lot of us are. I’m drawn to this tree, I pay her a visit weekly when I’m not traveling, I spend time just sitting under her broad canopy watching the birds flutter about her branches or the squirrels chase each other up and down the trunk. Hours have been spent just quietly sitting against her taking in her energy and simply being one with my surrounding environment. She in many ways has become my therapist, my teacher, my spiritual guide and confident. She’s been around long before I existed and I suspect she’ll be around long after I’ve returned to this earth with my demise.
