Porcupine Mountains Wilderness in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. View of the Carp River, Lake of the Clouds, and of the valley from the trail along the escarpment. I think I was probably a week early to see the fall colors in all their glory. Trees were changing but definitely not at the peak color yet.I’ve heard it’s gorgeous!!Funny thing... never been to Banff

So the forest here is primarily aspen, yellow birch, sugar and red maple, cedar, spruce, white pine and hemlock. These trees pictured are old growth Canadian hemlock Tsuga canadensis…my favorite tree (much more massive than the pics represent) They just really remind me of my childhood and home, all the time I spent tromping around the north woods as a kid. They can get pretty large but there is something delicate and feathery about them. I find hemlock to be particularly graceful.Wildfires?I still have not gone to see the devastation in that town
