View of the Carp River, Lake of the Clouds, and of the valley from the trail along the escarpment. I think I was probably a week early to see the fall colors in all their glory. Trees were changing but definitely not at the peak color yet.

IMG_3730.jpegIMG_3938.jpegSo the forest here is primarily aspen, yellow birch, sugar and red maple, cedar, spruce, white pine and hemlock. These trees pictured are old growth Canadian hemlock Tsuga canadensis…my favorite tree (much more massive than the pics represent) They just really remind me of my childhood and home, all the time I spent tromping around the north woods as a kid. They can get pretty large but there is something delicate and feathery about them. I find hemlock to be particularly graceful.
And yep, if you haven’t put 2 and 2 together yet…my name here “Tsuga” is the Latin genus for hemlock. Haha

A couple of the many waterfalls and cascades I encountered along the Carp River. Ended up crossing over this river 3 times in one day…it was freaking cold!!! Hahaha
